Hello folks I have another review and test to do.
I was asked by Carl with Black Hole Weaponry to test the velocity difference between the Enfield style of rifling and his Poly 3 groove.
For this testing I will be using the following barrels with the following round counts recorded before the testing. No muzzle breaks or flash hiders were used. I wanted to make this as fair of a test as I could. All velocities were recorded from a resting position, with the chronograph at 5 feet from the muzzle. All testing was done within 3 hours the same day with a temperature of 98 degrees and sunny. All ammo used was Remington 6.8 115 grain HP OTM ammo. I have previously used my hand loads, as I can control the variances, but for this test, I wanted to see how factory ammo faired. I did not use any other ammo other than the above listed. 10 rounds from each barrel were tested.
Barrel #1 Black Hole Weaponry 16” SS medium weight. Mid-length gas system and Enfield Rifled. (212 rounds)
Barrel #2 Black Hole Weaponry 16” SS medium weight. Mid-length gas system and 3 groove Poly Rifled. (75 rounds)
Barrel #3 Black Hole Weaponry 18” SS medium weight. Mid-length gas system and 3 groove Poly Rifled. (75 rounds)
Barrel #1 had the following recorded = 2636, 2688, 2678, 2592, 2632, 2671, 2699, 2673, 2666 and 2612. Average of 2654 with a deviation of 107 FPS.
Barrel #2 had the following recorded = 2688, 2702, 2662, 2693, 2671, 2678, 2681, 2676, 2674 and 2696. Average of 2682 with a deviation of 40 FPS.
Barrel #3 had the following recorded = 2788, 2760, 2762, 2869, 2783, 2793, 2772, 2779, 2769 and 2743. Average of 2782 with a deviation of 126 FPS.
So there you have the numbers. All 3 barrels probably need another 500 or so rounds down range to break them in and run the numbers again. I will be keeping track of the round count of them and do this test again when they reach the 500 mark. The poly 3 barrel had almost a 30 FPS increase over the Enfield rifled barrel.
The 18” barrel was not meant to be compared with the rest, I just wanted to throw it in there to show the difference in 18 and 16 inch. Looks like an average of 100 FPS faster than the 16” barrels.
Thanks for your time.
