The is no criminal penalty in any state for divulging that you are licensed to carry, there is a criminal penalty in some states. It is much safer to have a thought out boilerplate, standardized communication script.

Officer "May I see you license and registration, please."

You " Yes sir, My wallet with my drivers and CCH is in my right hip pocket and I am carrying IWB on my right hip"

If you say that and wait for his instructions before you make a move, you won't get shot.

If you say as your opening words "I'm armed to the teeth with my concealed gun," you may get shot before you get to the license part.

If you're in Texas and don't tell, you will probably see how clean their booking room and jail are.

Concealed means concealed, not top secret. WE don't tell muggers and robbers we are armed, we keep them guessing. With the license the cops are no longer our enemy as they [sort of were] before CCH.

Surprisingly, the law was recently changed that removes the penalty for failure to inform a LEO that you're carrying when ID is requested. Although I don't know anyone here with a CHL who would actually refuse to show their CHL, since CHL status is relayed to the LEO by the dispatcher when the DL is run.

I believe the reason this change was made was because of the double-standard involving the recent law change allowing anyone to carry concealed in a vehicle...those without CHLs didn't have a duty to inform, while those with CHLs did have a duty to inform.

Yes, it is true, not all legislators are out to screw with citizens. The laws change all the time. When done right, they actually make sense.

Most Texas legislators (and the gov) are very pro-RKBA. We probably have the only Capitol in the US that has a "fast lane" for CHL holders!

Let's all pray and vote for good candidates in every state.

Answer: No, although it is highly recommended![bolded in FAQ] Under the KPFPA, upon
demand of a law enforcement officer, the licensee must display the license if
they are carrying concealed.

So now I'm confused...show the CHL or not? (Here in TX it's a no-brainer, since we're required to show the CHL.)
You won't be in trouble for not showing it to the LEO right away. If when asked you must if you are carrying.

The LEO so far that I have dealt with just hand it back and say I don't need this when they get it with my drivers license. Which I prefer to finding the one that is mad because I didn't inform him and he figured it out after running my license.

It is a personal choice here if you inform an officer before he asks.

All KS peace officers have to have 40 hours of training per year to remain certified. I am sure they have a class on concealed carry and how to handle a situation when contacting an armed citizen. A great many of us are pro gun, I am a gun collector myself. I retired before concealed carry passed, but I did testify before a committee considering the concealed carry law. I was very pleased when it passed. It did not affect me as much as it gave law abiding citizens the right to protect themselves. Now the legislature needs to eliminate many of the places the law says you cannot carry.
